Physiotherapy for Pelvic Organ Prolapse in Worthing
Pelvic organ prolapse is common and can happen when the tissues and muscles supporting the pelvic organs are not providing the same level of support as before. Some people experience a feeling of pressure or heaviness, while others may notice a bulge or changes in bladder or bowel function.
Symptoms can vary considerably from person to person. They may become more noticeable after standing for long periods, lifting, running or other activities that increase pressure through the abdomen.
A pelvic health physiotherapy assessment can help you understand your symptoms and how they relate to your pelvic floor and the activities you are doing. We can also refer you to our gynaecological colleagues, with whom we work closely if appropriate, ensuring you get the best outcome.
Your treatment will be tailored to you and may include pelvic floor strengthening, breathing and pressure management, exercise modification and gradually building your tolerance to activities. We want you to understand what you can safely do and help you remain active, rather than feeling that you have to avoid exercise altogether.
