Bella D’Almeida

Specialist Pelvic Health Physiotherapist

Isabella (Bella) Almeida is a Specialist Pelvic Health Physiotherapist with over 20 years of clinical experience and has specialised in pelvic health since 2006. She is committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based, patient-centred care to help people improve their health, confidence, and quality of life.

Alongside her private practice, Bella is the Clinical Service Lead for Pelvic Health Physiotherapy at Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust and Professional Lead for the Sussex Perinatal Pelvic Health Physiotherapy Service. In these roles, she leads the development of specialist pelvic health services, promotes clinical excellence, and works to improve access to high-quality care across Sussex.

She supports patients throughout all stages of life, including pregnancy, the postnatal period, menopause, and beyond.

Bella is also a tutor for Pelvic Academy urogynaecology courses, providing specialist education to healthcare professionals across the UK. In addition, she guest lectures at the University of Brighton and the University of Chichester, teaching undergraduate physiotherapy students, midwives, and health visitors. She also provides mentorship to pelvic health physiotherapist’s in the UK and Europe.

Bella has a particular specialist interest in the management of Obstetric Anal Sphincter Injuries (OASI). She runs a joint endoanal ultrasound clinic alongside colorectal consultants, providing multidisciplinary assessment and management for patients recovering from complex childbirth injuries.

She is passionate about advancing pelvic health services through education, leadership, and service development. In 2024, Bella participated in national roundtable discussions in the UK Parliament, contributing to a policy report examining the barriers and opportunities surrounding gynaecological procedures across the UK.

Bella has contributed to the advancement of pelvic health physiotherapy through research and publication. She is the author of a peer-reviewed article published in the Journal of Pelvic, Obstetric and Gynaecological Physiotherapy on establishing a specialist perineal tears clinic, sharing best practice to support the development of specialist services.

Through her clinical practice, leadership, teaching, and research, Bella continues to advance pelvic health care and improve patient outcomes nationally.
